Last fall, Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops were the first American professional pops orchestra to perform in China as part of the prestigious China Shanghai International Arts Festival. The historic tour in October 2005 included two performances in Beijing and one in Singapore.Along with Kunzel and the Pops, the most distinctive voice on Round Up belongs to Frankie Laine. A recording artist since the 1950s, Laine was – among other achievements in his long career – the first and most successful singer to be associated with motion picture and television title songs. Beginning with Warner Brothers’ Blowing Wild in 1953, Laine lent his voice to a handful of big-screen western theme songs for the next two decades: Man Without a Star (1955), Strange Lady in Town (1955), Gunfight at the OK Corral (1957), 3:10 to Yuma (1957) and Blazing Saddles (1974).
